Fear Free™

Does your pet hate going to the vet? Do they know they’re going to the vet even before you leave your home with them? Do you hate watching them tremble in fear? Is your pet labeled “aggressive” or “too difficult to handle”? Is your pet neither of the above, but you want to prioritize the emotional welfare of your pet?

We acknowledge that some pets are never going to love seeing the veterinarian, but we are here to make that experience better. We’re here to listen to your concerns and work with you to create a plan on how to make the visits better for everyone involved.

Fear Free™ is an initiative started to educate pet professionals in recognizing and addressing methods to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress to improve the welfare of our pets in veterinary settings. This initiative has extended beyond veterinary practices and the pet community has seen proven, long lasting, beneficial effects that have improved animal welfare. These methods may include medications to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress levels so your pet can have their physical exam performed to get a more comprehensive picture of their health. If your pet will take treats, we will use a variety of treats for positive reinforcement and to distract them. This can also include using a gentle and considerate approach and respecting the boundaries of your pet to help guide us on how we can provide a more positive interaction.

Our team at City Animal Veterinary Center (CAVC) are all Fear Free™ certified or working towards their certification.
